One of the fastest-growing device markets globally and still 70–80% import-dependent: size, segments, the PLI scheme and medical device parks, CDSCO regulation, key players and the export opportunity to the GCC.
India’s medical devices market is growing faster than almost any large market, driven by hospital-bed expansion, insurance, diagnostics growth and government manufacturing incentives. Published estimates for 2025 range from USD 15.2 bn to USD 22.5 bn; our central estimate is USD 17.0 bn, growing at about 9% to USD 31.1 bn by 2032. India still imports the majority of its devices by value, particularly high-end imaging, implants and IVD instruments, while it exports consumables, disposables and some equipment.
Policy is the story: the Production Linked Incentive scheme for devices, four medical device parks, the National Medical Devices Policy 2023, and the extension of CDSCO licensing to all device classes under the Medical Device Rules are reshaping supply. For hospital buyers the practical effect is more domestic options in consumables, orthopaedics, dialysis and patient monitoring, at 30–60% below imported prices.
The chart shows the Consulting Wallah central estimate: published figures normalised to 2025, median taken, and projected at the median published growth rate. The published range for 2025 is USD 15.2 bn–USD 22.5 bn; differences are mostly scope.

Demand concentrates in private hospital chains and diagnostics; public procurement runs through state corporations and GeM. Domestic manufacturing clusters (Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh device park) are scaling in consumables, orthopaedics, cardiology (stents), dialysis and imaging (lower-end CT/X-ray).
GCC buyers increasingly accept Indian-made consumables, implants and dialysis products with CE/ISO 13485 and SFDA/MOHAP registration; the price gap versus European and US products is 30–60%, which matters in framework tenders. The Consulting Wallah Network connects verified Indian manufacturers with GCC demand.

How to read these figures. Published market-size estimates for this market vary widely because publishers define scope differently (software only vs software + services + logistics). Where we show a Consulting Wallah estimate we state the range of published figures it is triangulated from and our scope. Figures marked as reported are quoted from the named source.
