Every hospital group we work with is short of the same people: analysts who can turn purchasing data into decisions, buyers who understand pharmaceuticals and devices, and supply chain managers who can run a tender and a warehouse. Hospitals in the Gulf and India are adding beds faster than they are training supply chain staff. That is an opportunity.
The roles
- Procurement analyst / MIS — spend cubes, dashboards, savings tracking. Entry point for pharmacy, engineering and MBA graduates with strong Excel.
- Buyer / category specialist — pharma, consumables, equipment, services. Pharmacy and biomedical backgrounds do well.
- Stores and inventory — warehouse, par levels, consignment. Often the route from nursing or pharmacy into supply chain.
- Contracts and vendor management — tenders, agreements, performance.
- Supply chain manager / head — the function lead, usually after 6–10 years.
The skills that get you hired
Advanced Excel (pivots, Power Query, lookups) and increasingly Power BI; understanding of drug and device categories; basic finance (P&L, working capital); tendering and contract basics; and the ability to present a one-page analysis. Certifications help (CSCP, CIPS) but a portfolio helps more.
A six-month plan
- Build one spend cube on sample data and one tender comparison — our templates are free. Put them in a portfolio.
- Learn the drug classes and the consumable categories a hospital buys; the look-up is a start.
- Take a practitioner-led course (the Academy runs analytics, supply chain and marketing programmes live, Gulf and India time).
- Apply for an internship with real deliverables — ours is a permanent opening.
- Write about what you learn on LinkedIn, briefly and specifically. Hiring managers read it.
What it pays
Entry roles in India start at INR 3–6 lakh a year; the Gulf at AED 6,000–12,000 a month for analysts and buyers, more with pharmacy or biomedical qualifications. Managers in Gulf hospital groups earn AED 20,000–40,000 a month. The function is small enough that good people are noticed within two years.
